Brisbane Boys’ College sells heritage mansion to one of its own

Goldicott House has sold in an $8.25m deal.

A wealthy private school has offloaded one of Brisbane’s most historic estates in an $8.25m deal.

Goldicott House, the Toowong heritage-listed home owned by Brisbane Boys’ College, sold in a cash unconditional contract to a BBC old boy, after attracting strong interest from local families.

“Goldicott has been an important part of the Brisbane landscape for more than a century, and the College is pleased to see it continue its story with a family who already has strong ties to the local community,” headmaster Andre Casson said.

The college, in partnership with the Presbyterian Methodist Schools Association, paid $17m in 2022 for the 1.23ha property and had plans to retain it as an education asset.

They subdivided the block, selling the 5711sq m parcel that included Goldicott House.

Place New Farm’s Heath Williams handled the marketing and said Goldicott was a rare opportunity in a tightly held blue-chip pocket.

“The result shows just how strong the depth of Brisbane’s local buyer pool is, particularly among families who want to put down long-term roots close to the schools and communities they know,” Mr Williams said.

“The buyers were drawn to the character and history of the home as much as the address. “They have a clear vision to restore it as a grand family estate, which will be a fantastic outcome for the area.”

He said interest in Goldicott was overwhelmingly Brisbane-based.

Goldicott was designed by architect AB Wilson for bank manager Charles Patterson.

Its pioneering construction and design have stood the test of time with the property well-known across the city.

Developers had previously sought to demolish Goldicott but objections from locals caused plans to be rejected by council.
