Essendon’s Laverde selling Ascot Vale home amid DRYP success

The Essendon Football Club’s Jayden Laverde and wife Abbey Kosmatos are selling their 16 Roseberry St home in Ascot Vale.

Bomber turned streetwear business founder Jayden Laverde is looking for a slick disposal as his renovated Ascot Vale home goes to auction this weekend.

The forward-turned-defender has notched 145 games in the AFL for the Essendon Football Club since debuting a decade ago in 2015.

Last year, Laverde and Essendon teammate Zach Merrett launched clothing label Dryp.

Along with Laverde’s wife Abbey Kosmatos, he has overseen the designs and development of the streetwear business, and said it had been a nice change of pace to see how life operated in “the real world” outside of footy.

Laverde will spearhead the fashion side of the firm and work with designers into the future, and said a new range would be released within the next two months or so.

He added that while the business idea was initially a joke between him and a mate from the footy field, it was notching consistent sales now and “gives me a bit of purpose outside of footy”.

“And it will give us something for after my career when it does finish,” Laverde said.

He was also an ambassador for the Footy Colours Day event in 2025, working to support the Fight Cancer Foundation’s efforts to help kids remain connected with their family while receiving cancer treatments.

Laverde and Ms Kosmatos have listed their 16 Roseberry St, Ascot Vale, home for sale with a $1.5m-$1.575m asking price.

He said he would miss opening up the home’s bi-fold doors along the rear wall to the north-facing back yard while having some friends and family around for a barbecue and to watch the footy.

The rear garden has a spa to suit warmer weather, while the open-plan entertainment zone inside helps to cater to a crowd with a kitchen that includes a 900mm oven and stone benchtops.

The home’s bedrooms still feature decorative cornices and skirting boards.

Jayden Laverde and Abbey Kosmatos married in Bali before returning to the Ascot Vale home late last year.

But there’s plenty of character still on display, starting with the block-fronted Victorian era facade.

“I do like a house with a bit more character, and some of those features drew me to the house — like the bedrooms’ cornicing and the ceiling roses where the lights are,” he said.

Walking to the cafe, local shops and even the supermarket nearby had also made him appreciate the home’s convenient location.

Nelson Alexander’s Jayson Watts is handling inquiries and said the home had attracted the interest of buyers ranging from first-home buyers to downsizers and investors.

“Because it’s all on one level it’s appealing to a lot of groups,” Mr Watts said.

“And it’s 50 or 60 metres from Union Rd shops.”

It’s also about a 10 minute drive from the Essendon Football Club’s Windy Hill home.

Noting that the home had been renovated by the former owners about 10 years back, the agent said the update still held up really well.

Bi-fold doors at the rear of the house provide a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

Mr Watts said demand was growing in Ascot Vale, with spring expected to be a strong selling season for the area — and that renovated homes in particular were attracting high levels of attention.

The 16 Roseberry St, Ascot Vale, home will go to auction at 11.30am this Saturday.
