The Block 2025: Viewers slam ‘out of touch’ auction results

Fans of The Block have slammed the show for being “out of touch” after Sunday night’s auction saw only one of the five teams net a big win.

During the shock grand finale, Britt and Taz’ house sold for $420,000 above the $2.99 million reserve.

Meanwhile, Em and Ben and Han and Can’s homes were passed in at auction, with Han and Can’s property failing to draw a single bid.

Sonny and Alicia made $120,000 at auction, and Robby and Mat made $109,999.

Unimpressed viewers took to social media to lash out at the reno series and contestants for being “greedy”.

“Seriously, there are people in Australia who don’t earn $55k a year and they’re angry at making that for 12 weeks work, “ one user wrote on X.

“Get over yourselves. This show is so out of touch.”

“Approximately 25 per cent of Australian employees earn over $106,700 per year,” a second viewer complained.

“These greedy f***s just earned that in 10 weeks. Try telling your midwife who’s helping deliver your baby in nine weeks how ripped off you are. I’m sure that will really fly. NOT.”

“Every year on The Block, the contestants seem to get a little greedier,” a third person said.

“It’s reached the point where a $100k profit is treated like a disappointment, when in reality, most people would be thrilled with that kind of money.”

Other X users commented that this year’s series was doomed to fail due to its unrealistic selling expectations.

“Screwing over contestants with high reserves. Absolutely heartbreaking for the boys,” one person wrote.

“Make this show with affordable houses! Expecting a millionaire will buy all the houses … instead they are getting people walking away crying,” another vented.

Robby and Mat walked away with $109,999.

Robby and Mat recently broke their silence about their auction outcome after walking away with $109,999.

“It’s not great, but it is what it is. It’s not about the money … but it’s about the money. Just to cover my costs for not being in the business or the work I said no to, it wouldn’t even cover that,’ Mat told 9Entertainment.

The best mates revealed they would be splitting the winnings equally, ensuring each of them would receive under $55,000.

“It sucks. It’s a lot of hard work that we put in, but it’s a beautiful house and I’m sure the buyer and all his guests are going to enjoy it a lot,” Robby said.

It comes after Mat lashed out at a producer, who said he was being “a bit sensitive” after their disappointing result.

“We’re not sensitive, we’re f**ked off,” he said before making it clear he wasn’t happy with the sale.

Following their media interviews Mat said ‘that was f**ked’ as he walked away from the cameras.
