Rare Unley workshop attracting keen buyers and curious locals

A long-standing Unley workshop renowned for being one of the only properties of its kind in the suburb has hit the market.

Surrounded by homes, many of which are historic and have stood for 100-plus years, the property at 92 Porter St has operated as a metal fabrication business for decades.

It is well known in the area because of just how rare it is so has attracted a lot of attention since being listed for sale.

Selling agent Dylan Lynch, of Harris Real Estate, said both prospective buyers and local residents had contacted him about the property.

“I can’t believe how many people have contacted us just curious about it and what it could be,” he said.

“We had over 50 groups through over the first weekend.

“It brings a lot of charm to the area.

“It’s incredibly remarkable that a property like this has existed there for as long as it has.

“It could genuinely be the last one of its kind.”

Mr Lynch said the vendor, who purchased it in 2016 from the previous owner under the agreement that it would continue to be run as a workshop, was selling the property to retire.

While currently a welder’s workshop, its high ceilings and flexible mezzanine with a bathroom make it a versatile property – which is why Mr Lynch said it was attracting such a wide range of prospective buyers.

“It’s been a huge mix of demographics, with people who want to keep it as a workshop and people who have great imaginations with regards to turning it into a small business or small cafe in some form, as well as the possibility of turning it into a residential address,” he said.

“It’s incredibly unique.”

The property’s position at the intersection of one of Adelaide’s busiest bike routes and the Ron Praite Walkway, which connects to the Windsor Linear Trail, was also highly desirable, Mr Lynch said.

The property will go under the hammer at 2pm on July 26.
