Patrick Johnson and Tamsin Johnson list Darling Point mansion

15 Eastbourne Rd, Darling Point has been transformed by acclaimed designer Tamsin Johnson.

Kendall Lodge has just had a glow up by one of Sydney’s most fashion-forward couples.

Bespoke tailor Patrick Johnson of P.Johnson, and his interior designer wife Tamsin, bought the Darling Point trophy home in 2020 for $10.05m and invested five years into the revival of the 1920s residence.

Today the reinvented five-bedroom mansion at 15 Eastbourne Rd is back on the market in an expressions of interest campaign through TRG founder Gavin Rubinstein and Marion Badenoch.

It’s set to be next week’s Wentworth Courier House of the Week.

Rubinstein nominates three comparable sales, including 106 Victoria Rd, Bellevue Hill which sold last month for $28m; 28 Darling Point Rd, Darling Point sold in February for $23m; and 19A Eastbourne Rd, Darling Point that sold in 2023 for $29.25m.

Among its attractions are the large family-friendly swimming pool and sweeping views.

The couple engaged Wyer & Co to do the landscaping.

“It’s a beautiful property that’s basically been rebuilt and restored by Tamsin Johnson Interiors,” Rubinstein said.

“They’ve been so clever with the rebuild, creating internal access from a double garage and adding a fifth bedroom which is completely self contained to be a gym, or even nanny’s quarters.

“The big value here is what they’ve done with the garden, engaging Wyer & Co to do the landscaping.

“Then they’ve also created a third level; it’s got extra living, a wellness area, a steam room, a sauna, an ice bath, and the pool looks across the whole of Double Bay and the harbour.”

The Johnsons are moving on to their next property project, dropping $28.4m in August on an original 1970s harbourfront home at 2 Cove St, Watsons Bay. That fixer upper last traded for $275,000 in 1976.

The ground floor is home to multiple formal spaces with fireplaces, grand arched windows and French doors to the manicured grounds.

Formal dining.

Sitting on about 1000sq m with a 30m frontage, Kendall Lodge on Eastbourne Rd has sweeping harbour views across Double Bay and Seven Shillings Beach.

Blending grand art deco architecture with contemporary sophistication, the Johnsons’ residence has been reconfigured to maximise natural light and play homage to original elements such as high ornate ceilings and timber detailing.

Modern touches include Calacatta marble surfaces, Italian tumbled marble floors and bespoke timber joinery.

Designer lighting featuring 1930s French alabaster pendants and Murano glass sconces are a tribute to the golden era of the home.

The includes a unique geometrical island bench, Perrin & Rowe tapware, the latest European appliances, a butler’s pantry and custom cabinetry with “croissant” handles, and a meals area.

There are even harbour views from the bath tub.

Beyond the stately foyer, there is a library, grand lounge room, sunroom, and dining room. This entry level also houses a bedroom, bathroom, powder room and a commercial sized laundry.

For alfresco entertaining, a series of terraces and the landscaped gardens lead out to a large family-friendly swimming pool.

Up on the accommodation level, there are three bedrooms including the palatial main with its Hollywood style dressing room and a hotel-inspired ensuite featuring a freestanding tub overlooking the harbour.

Two more bedrooms on the upper level share a family bathroom.

Down on the lower ground floor, a grand entertainers’ retreat plays host to a wellness zone with a sauna, cold plunge pool, a combined bathroom and steam room, plus extra living space.

Additionally, there is an independent gym or guest suite, a double lock up garage and ample subfloor storage.

Kendal Lodge is close to the Cruising Yacht Club, Double Bay shopping and dining, as well as Steyne Park and the ferry wharf.
