More than 350 new land lots earmarked for Mount Barker

More than 350 land lots will soon hit the market in Mount Barker following the approval of a $180 million housing development.

Larkview, a new community on a 22.38ha site off Wellington Rd, will have a mix of homes and green space.

National developer Jinding, which purchased the site about a year ago, planned to launch the lots in stages, the first of which would be in mid-September.

About 330 conventional land lots, 20 townhomes and several homestead-sized lots will be available, with those in the first release ranging between 320sqm and 714sqm.

Prices have not yet been determined.

Jinding development managing director Dr Andrew Ashwood said Larkview would help ease increasing pressure on housing supply in the area.

According to PlanSA data, Mount Barker LGA’s population is projected to climb from about 40,000 in 2021 to more than 60,000 by 2041.

“With population growth comes pressure on housing supply,” Mr Ashwood said.

“Larkview will not only help ease that pressure but also enhance local amenity with new parkland and improved connections to neighbouring communities,” he said.

The project is expected to provide 1000 jobs in the area during development and residential construction.

It is one of several housing projects at various stages of development across Adelaide at the moment.

Construction of the first waterfront townhouses at Port Adelaide’s $268m Dock One North development kicked off earlier this week.

It will eventually grow to 128 townhouses and 272 apartments in 2-4 storey buildings with views south and west over Port River.

All 22 townhouses in the first release sold ahead of construction, with those in the next release set to go on sale in July.

Prices start at $999,900 for a three-bedroom home.

Furthermore, 50 much-needed social and affordable rental properties have been built on a former Henley Beach South public housing site in a $48m development.

‘Coast’ includes 22 two-and three-bedroom affordable rental townhouses and five two-bedroom social apartments owned and operated by Unity Housing.

There are also 23 two-bedroom social rental apartments for people aged 55 and over that are owned by the South Australia Housing Trust but managed by Unity Housing.

Another 20 townhouses have been sold to market.
