Inside the ‘Hollywood Hills’ Gold Coast home set to shatter records

55 Stella Place, Bonogin

A jaw-dropping acreage estate has become an internet sensation overnight, notching up more than 750,000 views within 24 hours of hitting the market and on track to reach one million over the weekend.

Named El Fin, no expense was spared on the just-completed luxury property, designed as the ultimate entertainer complete with a fire pit centrepiece in the infinity pool, alongside an in-house cocktail bar, cinema, gaming arcade, and rooftop golf green.

The three-level stone-clad Gold Coast home at 55 Stella Place, Bonogin is the work of owner-builders, Mitchell and Felicity Micallef, and listed for auction on December 9 with Michael Bacon, of Place Kangaroo Point, and Ed Cherry, of Coastal.

“The level of response has been extraordinary. Before we even launched it, it had 450,000 views. Within 24 hours, it exploded past 750,000,” Mr Bacon said.

“People scroll past hundreds of properties every week, but this one makes you stop. It looks like a Hollywood Hills resort, then you discover it’s in a quiet hinterland street.

“That shock factor is driving the online obsession.”

Mr Cherry said he’d been contacted by serious buyers in Melbourne, Brisbane and on the Gold Coast requesting private tours of the property within hours of its launch, while a helicopter would be on-site for the weekend’s first open home.

“The sheer presence of this home as you come up over the hill makes it a standout in the local luxury market,” Mr Cherry said.

“It’s ideal for buyers who are wanting something brand-new with that acreage or hobby farm feel, without feeling really detached to the Gold Coast.

“It has everything a Hinterland property could offer, but you are still in close proximity to the beach and to three private schools as well as Bond University.”

Adding to the property’s viral reach, the new owners will score a surfboard signed by Aussie world surf champion Stephanie Gilmore, and another board ridden by US king of the waves Kelly Slater himself.

The buyer will score PT sessions from an ex-NRL player

The buyers will also receive twice-weekly personal training for six months with former NRL forward Dayne Weston in their personal home gym.

While no price guide was available as the property is listed for auction, Mr Bacon said it stood to set a residential sales record for the suburb of Bonogin, where the median house price sits at $1.69m.

“This isn’t just a big house. It’s one of the most thoughtfully designed family estates I’ve ever brought to market. Every space has purpose, flow and craftsmanship,” Mr Bacon said.

The Micallefs spent 18 months building the six-bedroom, five-bathroom property, which was the largest residential home ever designed by Emil Kucevic from EMK Architecture.

It was designed as a dream home for a family with three boys

The couple and their three boys, aged 9, 6 and 3, moved back to Queensland from Sydney during the pandemic and threw themselves into creating a home that felt like “a private resort in nature.”

“We built this as the home our boys would grow up in. The pool, the cinema, the games room, the rooftop, the space to run — it was everything we dreamed of,” said Mr Micallef, of MJW Building Worx.

“But we fell in love with the process of creating it. We want to build again. That’s the only reason we’re selling.”

The home has six bedrooms

Ms Micallef, who owns Haus of JWT, said it’s a home built for memories.

“Every corner of this house was designed for connection — family dinners, parties, weekends with friends. It’s been pure joy living here.”

The family has deep ties to the area, having held the 8506 sqm parcel with their parents and grandfather for years.

Other property features include a sauna and ice baths, self-contained guest wing, stunning Quartzite and Gaggenau kitchen with a butler’s pantry, and nine-car garage.
