Inside The Block’s biggest losers’ budget comeback

Jenny and Dylan from The Block have revealed plans for their latest project

After losing big on The Block, Dylan and Jenny have swapped high-end heartbreak for a renovator on the Gold Coast.

The fan-favourite couple made headlines for copping one of the most brutal blows in the history of the hit TV show, walking away with nothing after their house was passed in on auction night. It remained on the market for nearly six months before finally selling for $3.9m — $180,000 below the original reserve.

The Season 18 contestants didn’t fare much better off-screen, with the Palm Beach dream home they had started before joining The Block also failing to sell in 2023.

The Block contestants Jenny Heath-Adams and Dylan Adams suffered one of the series’ biggest losses in history

Welcoming their first child, Billy, in August last year, the energetic couple changed tack, keeping the luxury Palm House as their family home and investing instead in a 1990s-era holiday unit at Coolangatta for their next project.

After – a render of the planned glow-up

Priced at $920,000, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom fixer-upper was snapped up for less than the suburb’s median unit price of $1.05m. The north-facing apartment on Dutton Street was marketed by LJ Hooker Southern Gold Coast agent Erin King.

Dylan Adams and Jenny Heath-Adams said they were planning to bring a “Modern-terranean” aesthetic to the property, which last changed hands for $380,000 in 2013.

A planned auction for their Palm Beach house was scrapped

“Since wrapping up our Palm House build, we’ve been itching to take on another project — but client work has kept up busy,” said the couple, who juggle new parenthood with running their construction business.

Their plans include replacing the poky kitchen’s outdated yellow-and-blue cabinetry with Taj Mahal stonework, a galley-style layout, and custom-designed rangehoods with contemporary lighting.

French doors will connect internal and external living areas, with multiple outdoor zones to be created, including a freestanding pergola with feature rafters, battens and cascading vines, along with a rendered barbecue area.

Ms King said the courtyard property within the Sunrise Sea complex was located just 200m from Coolangatta’s retail strip and 400m from the beach.

An artist’s impression of what’s to come

“Dylan and Jenny know the appeal of the southern end of the Coast having completed other successful projects in Palm Beach,” she said.

“With the Dutton Street property, they recognised its proximity to shops, Coolangatta and Kirra beaches.

“They were also taken with the potential of the outdoor area and are going to create a space that really takes advantage of the southern Coast’s lifestyle.”
