The listing paints a vibrant picture of village life, complete with an art gallery, weekly farmer’s market, swimming pool, and local shops.

The home, meanwhile, is one less than a dozen currently for sale on the island.

A “truly blank slate” also awaits just down the road, where another seller is asking $200,000 ($307,300) for his block of cooled lava.

While living on or near an active volcano can be beneficial – it offers fertile land and resources – it’s also often considered dangerous, with active volcanoes posing significant risks to not only homes, but lives.

And with volcanic eruptions on the rise worldwide, purchasing a lava home could prove a risky investment.

According to the Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program between 50 and 70 eruptions are recorded around the world each year. As of July 7, 54 volcanoes have erupted in 2025, 12 of which were deemed new eruptions that started during the year.

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano put on a dramatic display in May, shooting lava fountains over 1000 feet into the air.

The six-hour eruption, marked the 23rd episode in a series of eruptions that began last December.

According to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists, there might be another eruption soon. The volcano has been following a pattern of erupting about once per week since 2024.
