House of the week: Fore the families and golf lovers

A beautiful Darwin elevated overlooking a golf course has hit the property market after undergoing a stunning transformation.

The five-bedroom, dual living home sits on a 1220 sqm block that looks out over the 17th hole of Darwin Golf Course.

Owners Angelo Maglieri and Rachel Cotton bought the property in 2014 for its location, tropical design and handy granny flat.

“We liked the lifestyle (the home offered) and the potential it had,” Mr Maglieri said.

“We were also moving my elderly parents in with us, so the granny flat was very attractive.”

Since buying the property the couple, who have two young children, have extended the house and extensively renovated it throughout to create a home that worked for their family.

“It is such a different house now,” Mr Maglieri said.

“It just flows well and everything is where is should be.”

The couple removed the old master suite to extend the living area and create an upstairs laundry, they added a large deck and extended the house in create a new master suite.

“There is now great separation between the living and sleeping areas,” Mr Maglieri said.

“There is a door at the start of the hallway and then the entrances to all but one bedroom are behind a second door (along the hallway).

“I’m a bit of a football fan and I can get up at three in the morning to watch a game, and not wake anyone up.”

Upstairs, the home has a sprawling open plan living, dining and kitchen space flowing out to the front and rear balconies.

A huge covered deck looks out over the pool, yard and golf course, and has cleverly positioned shade cloth screening to keep the weather out.

“That shade cloth is a new addition and it effectively keeps out all the rain, unless it’s absolutely belting down,” Mr Maglieri said.

The main bedroom has a walk-through robe, ensuite and balcony access, and is right next to the study.

There are three more bedrooms on this level along with a family bathroom and internal laundry.

“Having that laundry upstairs is pretty rare in an elevated but you really appreciate it,” Mr Maglieri said.

Downstairs, the granny flat has a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and open plan living with veranda access.

There is also a second laundry, undercover parking and plenty of storage space on ground level.

Outside, there is an in-ground pool, established gardens, plenty of lawn space, a garden shed and a double lock up garage.

For the golf lovers, there is covered parking space for the golf buggy.

“We have direct access to the course, but ever better there is a little laneway at the end of our cul-de-sac, which takes you straight to the club house,” Mr Maglieri said.

The property is close to the Marrara Sporting Complex, Casuarina shops, the university and the hospital.

Mr Maglieri said the home would suit families of all ages, especially those seeking a separate space for older relatives or teenage children.

“It’s an amazing house,” he said.

“We have a great outlook from our deck onto the 17th fairway and its really nice not having properties all around you.

“Rachel is a photographer, she runs PhotosByRach, and she has enough room to have her own office and door all her stuff.”
