An ultimate Top End fishing base has hit the property market with monster shed, modern home and plumbed wash bay, all just minutes from top notch bluewater fishing.

The 4950 sqm Dundee Beach property was Peter ‘Bluey’ Armstrong and Annemieke Heijden’s dream after retiring from a dairy farm in Victoria.

“My husband was a very keen fisherman,” Mrs Heijden said.

“When we stopped milking in Gippsland, he’d come up here regularly, so we decided to buy a block of land here.”

Sadly, Mr Armstrong passed away last year and Mrs Heijden has now decided it’s time for their dream to become someone else’s.

When the couple bought the block at 9 Athol St, Dundee Beach, in 2019, it only had a basic donga and a couple of shipping containers covered by a roof.

They set out to build a small home but realised bigger sometimes is better.

“Before we built, we had family come and stay with us – they took up all the room,” Mrs Heijden said.

“So that’s when we decided to make it bigger.”

The property now has six bedrooms, four bathrooms, three laundries, two kitchens, a spa and a huge shed.

“The main house was only finished in 2023,” Mrs Heijden said.

“I really did enjoy the interior decorating and buying the furniture.”

The spacious home has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area opening to the big deck through sliding doors.

The main bedroom has a walk-through wardrobe, a luxurious ensuite and a private veranda, and there are two more bedroom, plus an extra room that could be a bedroom, home office or media room.

There is a separate guest home under the roofline of the main house with two bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen.

Outside, there is a huge entertaining deck, a built-in spa on the veranda and the massive shed, which Mrs Heijden said never seemed to stop growing.

“It just got bigger and bigger and bigger,” she said.

“Two small bays became two large bays, then it became three bays, and then we added the wash bay,

“The big shed had two big TVs in it (plus) tables and a barbecue.

“The UFC fights were on every Sunday.”

Mrs Heijden said the property had been perfect for hosting visiting family and friends.

“It was always great to have people over,” she said.

“We had my 70th birthday here and … we had two caravans, three campervans and a motorhome parked here.

“We enjoyed entertaining and sharing our good fortune with others.

“We just didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we would have like to have done.”

Mrs Heijden said not only was the property an amazing home, the Dundee Beach township also welcomed newcomers with open arms.

“I love the community here,” she said.

“I’ve been involved with the social club, with yoga, with the school.

“Everybody comes from somewhere else, you just make friends.”

Ray White Palmerston principal and selling agent, Ryan Rowsell said Dundee Beach was a popular lifestyle and fishing spot about 90 minutes from Darwin.

“It is renowned for its world-class bluewater fishing, relaxed coastal living and strong community spirit,” he said.

“The local pub with live music and the caravan park with cabins attract both locals and interstate visitors, adding to the town’s vibrant character.”

Mrs Heijden said her Dundee Beach home would suit a buyer looking for plenty of space for visitors or for running a business.

The property is for sale via best offer by Friday, October 31.
