First look: Geelong’s premium Motif apartments completed

Construction of the Motif apartment project at 1 York St, Geelong, has been completed.

The newest dress-circle positions around Geelong’s waterfront are up for grabs as the city’s latest apartment building has been completed ahead of time.

Development joint venture partners DM Property and Icon Kajima and marketing agents McGrath Projects hosted a VIP evening to celebrate the achievement at Geelong’s Motif project, after the first residents had already moved in.

McGrath Projects director Jim Cross said 80 per cent of the York St development had already been sold, with one, two and three-bedroom apartments, including penthouses, available for purchasers.

“When we’re selling properties off the plan, to finish and hand over a product at this level of quality and workmanship is so exciting,” Mr Cross said.

“Hamilton Marino has done an amazing job in the build and DM Property and Icon Kajima have done an amazing job managing the whole process to see a building of this size in Geelong to this quality to also running on time is attributed to the managers of the project.

“The project’s now 80 per cent sold, which is an amazing result in this current climate.”

“The design that’s been put together on this project caters for everybody in the marketplace, whether it be a one-bed, two-bed, three-bedroom apartment, or a penthouse with a view like this, to have this luxury of space, the amount of storage that we have in this apartment, which is truly a credit to (architects) Rothelowman,” he said.

The Motif apartment project eastern facade overlooks Geelong’s waterfront.

Potential purchasers were treated to food and drink and the chance to soak up the views during the afternoon peak hour from a finished and furnished apartment.

Some of the guests, who already live in other apartment complexes in Geelong and had inspected the property during its construction phase, were impressed with the views, which are available from dawn, the design of the dwellings, and surprised with the amenity in the area.

DM Property director Brendan Mullan said the project has been completed almost four months early.

The penthouse apartment at 602/1 York St, Geelong, is listed for sale with $1.65m price hopes.

The penthouse apartment has a show kitchen and a separate butler’s pantry, which includes a European laundry.

Internal light wells draw natural light into the penthouse apartment.

“We’re early, which not many projects can say on delivery time. This building was supposed to be finished in December,” he said.

“The quality’s come up really well. The views are better than what we thought that would be, which we’re really super pumped about,” he said.

Architects Rothelowman designed the project with a facade fuses rust metal finishes with sand-toned textured concrete.

“We’re also really proud of adding to the Geelong skyline,” Mr Mullan said.

A fifth-level apartment offers a different configuration between indoor and outdoor areas.

The two-bedroom Motif apartment still puts Geelong on show.

“There’s not many buildings being built at the moment and there’s a lot of permits out there,” he said.

“We’re super proud to be actually able to deliver this in the current market and deliver a great price point we think for first-home buyers, investors, downsizers coming to Geelong or staying in Geelong and downsizing.”

Many apartments enjoy water views, including most available to buy, while a shared rooftop terrace offers an outdoor space for sunset drinks and captures a sweeping outlook over Corio Bay, taking in the expanding CBD all the way to the Sky Wheel and promenade at Eastern Beach.
