Chris Hemsworth’s rock star mate sells ‘designer masterpiece’

Chris Hemsworth’s rock star mate who taught him the drums has has sold his Byron Bay ‘designer masterpiece’ for about $10m.

The drummer in the local metalcore band Parkway Drive, Ben Gordon, said in a promo video for the upcoming Hemsworth show Limitless posted on YouTube yesterday that he taught Hemsworth the drums as part of a “turning 40” challenge.

He says it took “a lot of guts” for Hemsworth to learn the new skill and then get up on stage in front of 70,000 people with another Byron Bay mate, Ed Sheeran, for a concert in Romania last August.

‘I have the utmost respect and admiration for him … he pulled it off but it was a journey to get there,” Gordon said.

Double-height ceilings are part of the appeal.

Meanwhile Gordon, whose own band packs out stadiums throughout Europe, UK, the US and Asia, did the deal on his four-bedroom, three-bathroom home with double garage and pool at 20 Pacific Vista Drive, Byron Bay last week via Will Phillips of Sotheby’s.

He’d bought the Mediterranean-inspired property on a 660sqm block with 180 degree ocean views for $2.45m in 2019 — about the same time that the band performed at Bloodstock Festival in Britain.

It’s unclear where Gordon, his partner and young daughter are headed next.
