A bold opener from the eventual buyer knocked out most of the competition at the first bid for a renovated and extended Highton home.

The four-bedroom house at 2 Hendriks Court sold for $910,000 after two bidders contested Saturday’s auction.

Barry Plant South Barwon agent Kingston Wade said seven potential buyers were set to make a play for the 654sq m in Highton’s Olympic estate after a strong campaign.

The extension and renovation created a large, open living, dining and kitchen space.

Mr Wade said 67 groups inspected the property in the lead-up to the auction with a quoted range of $820,000 to $880,000.

“We had seven registered bidders, only two of which got a chance because the bidding opened at $870,000.

“It actually went a lot better than we thought it was going to. It was $60,000 over reserve in the end.”

Mr Wade said the quality of the renovation was key to the interest in the property, plus the location.

The main bedroom retreat was another addition to the home.

The updated bathroom has a luxury feel.

“It’s an older property which has been rebricked at the front so looks very modern,” he said.

“They extended the home and put a master retreat in as well which really opened it up because it used to be a three-bedroom house.”

The striking dark brickwork at the front contrasted with the timber windows to create a striking facade.

With the double garage relocated to the front of the block as part of the extension, the layout opened right up to offer a substantial living zone with a galley kitchen featuring a bold aqua splashback, a breakfast bar and french doors leading from the dining area onto a rear deck.

The main bedroom suit occupied a private space near the entry passage, with three more bedrooms, an updated central bathroom and laundry occupying the original portion of the house.

The property is close to Clairvaux and Bellaire primary schools and Belmont High School, along with proximity to Highton Village shops and McDonald Reserve.

Hendriks Court, named after gold medal swimmer Jon Hendriks, is part of a mid-century Highton estate where the streets are named in honour of Australian athletes from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
