Blush Bar owner lists minimalist Jan Juc oasis with ocean views

3 Shapers Court, Jan Juc, is selling through Natural Real Estate for $4.85m-$5.25m.

Blush Bar owner Emma McFarlane is selling her family’s luxurious Jan Juc home that was more than seven years in the making.

A temperature controlled wine cellar, sauna and magnesium swimming pool are among indulgent features at the minimalist four-bedroom residence with ocean views.

But the beauty of the $4.85m to $5.25m listing at 3 Shapers Court, Jac Juc, is more than skin deep.

Built around passive house principles, the all-electric home also champions high-performance design through triple glazed windows, premium insulation and a heat recovery ventilation system that provides continuous filtered fresh air.

Ms McFarlane said she and her husband Chad Whelan first bought the 4170sq m block seven years ago but bringing their vision to life had been “quite the process”.

They finally moved in during July 2024 after Covid scuttled their original building schedule, giving them a chance to revise their plans.

The final design wraps around a central swimming pool and outdoor entertainment area sited for wind protection to allow year-round use.

The ocean is in view from the kitchen.

The outdoor entertainment area has a built-in barbecue, fireplace and pizza oven.

The password protected wine cellar is designed to be a party feature.

“We based the design on a beautiful property that we actually got married at in Port Douglas so it was all around the pool,” she said.

“The design of the house is U-shaped so it was really important for us to have that indoor-outdoor feel even though we are in Victoria.”

Geelong Building Co, Leyer Design Studio and Ryan Darling from RLD Design worked on the project.

With work travel commitments prompting a move closer to town, the family has engaged Natural Real Estate, Torquay agent Shaun O’Callaghan to sell the property.

Ms McFarlane said making the walk-in wine cellar a centrepiece was on a par with the pool when it came to big ideas.

The kitchen has an induction cooktop, dual ovens and a large butler’s pantry.

The main bedroom suite has access to a private deck, as well as his and hers walk-in wardrobes.

“It’s on show within the house but behind glass that’s a little bit muted, you can turn the light on and it really is a party feature of the house,” she said.

“There is the password protected door lock to get in – it’s a very nice way of being able to entertain close to the kitchen.”

Silver travertine benchtops where chosen as part of a beach-inspired palette, while the polished concrete floors have zoned in-floor hydronic heating.

The large windows that connect the home’s three wings to each other and the surrounding landscape are another favourite feature.

“We just love the idea of indoor-outdoor and to be able to see through to the other side of the house. Because there is so much glass we can be in the kitchen and look right through and see the kids in the rumpus room,” she said.
