Geelong Cats great puts 60ha Barrabool Hills farm up for sale

Retired Geelong Cats record games holder Tom Hawkins has put his Barrabool farm up for sale.

Retired Cats triple premiership player Tom Hawkins and wife Emma have put their Barrabool Hills farm property on the market.

The couple have raised three children on the prestige rural property just outside Geelong.

Hawkins played 359 games over 18 seasons at Kardinia Park, kicking 796 goals and claiming the 2020 Coleman medal.

The five-time All-Australian, who grew up on the family farm at Finley, New South Wales, but was recruited from Melbourne Grammar School, bought the Barrabool property in 2016.

The prestige Barrabool Hills acreage property Strathmile is on the market.

A wood heater is at the heart of the open-plan kitchen, meals and lounge area.

Hawkins was famously the first prominent Cats player to move onto a farming property in the region, a trend followed by several current crop players including reigning Coleman medallist Jeremy Cameron and ruckman Rhys Stanley that’s been seen as giving the Cats a lifestyle edge in attracting prized mature recruits.

Hawkins, who has been running Angus cattle on the farm and had more cattle at a Camperdown property, joined Nutrien Ag Solutions livestock team after retiring from the AFL, while he’s also part of the Fox Footy team for the 2025 season and has also been linked to a part-time coaching role at Melbourne Football Club, now coached by former Cat Steven King.

The four-bedroom home is coupled with two separate guest studios.

Hawkins bought the farm in 2016.

He’s also pulled on the boots for several country clubs, including his native Finley Cats.

Emma Hawkins, who founded children’s brand Homegrown Kids with friend Penny Hunt, grew up at Deniliquin and the couple met at high school.

HF Richardson Newtown agent Matt Poustie has listed the 60.08ha property Strathmile in an expressions of interest campaign closing on November 11.

Mr Poustie said the property was once part of the Strathlachlan Estate, and represents a rare opportunity to secure a premium holding in a blue-ribbon locale.
